Save the Buckshot, Turn Up the Band
There was a New Year's in a portable, homemade bar on a movie set once. We threw a serious party. I tended bar, drank my one drink in one sip at midnight (a Miller High Life), and drove a lot of people home. It was a long and exhausting night.
One of the things I remember best was a mixed CD a friend convinced me to play right after the countdown. It opened with Sam Cooke in Harlem, and then it got heavy on Bruce Springsteen.
The Bruce didn't quite maintain the movement that Sam had inspired, but people keep smiling, and people kept singing. So Bruce on New Year's it is...Blinded by the Light is track 1 on Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ.
